# Installation

### Before you begin

Make sure your server is running:

* Paper `26.2`
* Java `25`
* Vault
* A Vault-compatible economy plugin, such as the economy included with EssentialsX

PlayerPoints is optional. Install it only if you want a second leaderboard for points.

### Install BetterBaltop

1. Stop the server.
2. Install Vault and your Vault-compatible economy plugin.
3. Optionally install PlayerPoints.
4. Place the BetterBaltop JAR in the server's `plugins` folder.
5. Start the server.
6. Check the console for the BetterBaltop enabled message.
7. Join the server and run `/baltop`.

BetterBaltop creates these files on first startup:

* `plugins/BetterBaltop/config.yml`
* `plugins/BetterBaltop/messages.yml`

The default files work without any changes.

### Confirm the installation

Run this command from the console or as an operator:

```
/bbt status
```

The Vault leaderboard should be listed as waiting, refreshing, or ready. If PlayerPoints is installed and hooked successfully, it will also appear in the status output.

The first economy leaderboard may take a short time to appear. BetterBaltop reads known player accounts in safe batches instead of pausing the server.
